9th Grade Essays
Dreams Essay
Dreams are what motivate people to pursue a life of happiness. My teacher uses this to her advantage by trying to get to know us through what motivates us and what gives us the courage to pursue day to day education. Since everyone of us is born with a narcissist inside, this paper was relatively easy to write. Furthermore, this assignment succeeds in reigniting people's passions and being the window into how Jill perceives her students.
The House on Mango Street Essay
The reason why this essay is relevant to our English class is Jill wanted to teach us about the format of writing professional essays. This was important because we had to forgo the lazy writing style that we were absorbed in through middle school and elementary school. One of the qualifications for an essay to receive a passing grade would be to write in the third tense. What we as students hoped to capture in this essay was the continuous growth of the character Esperanza. The House on Mango Street is one of the definitive ways to describe character development, so my teacher capitalized on this. Therefore, this essay was a great way to kick-off my 9th grade Humanities.
I received an 91/100 grade. I think it accurately depicts the amount of work and effort I put into this essay. It went through numerous revisions and multiple drafts.

Of Mice and Men Essay
The assignment was to compose an essay that focuses on the theme of discrimination and the unjust treatment displayed during the 1930s. We were required to analyze three characters from the novel and use evidence from the book to support our ideas about the theme of discrimination. I got a 95/100. It was certainly an improvement after my last essay. This essay went through even more drafting than my previous work and was extremely hard to write compared to my prior essay. That being said, I was flabbergasted when I received a near perfect 100.
The Art of Racing in the Rain
I decided to include this timed writing based off of Garth Stein's The Art of Racing in the Rain because I enjoyed working on it and I am proud of it. The prompt was to explain how the Swift family (characters in the novel), instead of being controlled by a logical fear of death - be it physical, emotional, or spiritual - choose to not allow others to dictate what is and isn't possible. Eve, Denny, and Enzo defy death on a physical, emotional, and spiritual level, respectively. This is a piece I shall proudly boast in my personal writing portfolio for all to see.
Teen Issues Research Paper
The common teenager is plagued by numerous social, emotional and mental issues that consume their lives. We were tasked to bring awareness to one of these issues exposing the severity it holds on the American youth. My topic centered around self harm. The reason why I picked it is unlike marijuana, drinking or other such issues, grabbing a razor blade and mutilating oneself effects people of all economic strata and ethnic backgrounds in the U.S.
Unlike some teens who find comfort in
seeing their own blood bleed I find comfort in getting a grade. I
feel like my essay brings awareness and firmly addresses the issue of
self harm.
