Food for Thought
One of the reasons why people don't eat as healthy as they should is because healthier food is more expensive than not. It was extremely important to show people how a sustainable garden can be cheaper. It is not only more affordable but it is better for the environment. Instead of using steroids in livestock, the garden uses pneumonia from fish to get all natural vegetables and fruit. This project really emphasized collaboration with students working in their respective groups. All groups had different responsibilities; Some focused more on building the planter box for the garden and some making the garden look presentable. All the groups had a common understanding of how the hydroponic system worked. My position was a part of the documentation team. The documentation team was responsible for chronicling the process of creating the garden by videotaping and taking pictures. This project reaffirms how powerful it is to work with people all striving to accomplish the same goal. I also think this project is worth learning about because it reminds us that as consumers we have options for innovative healthier ways of eating.
