MY BASQUIAT BOOK
This semester we studied the style of the neo-expressionist, Jean-Michelle Basquiat. You'll find the images down below to be my take on the Basquiat style.
Per my opinion, the Quill is the most iconic literary symbol ever. So Naturally, I made my trademark symbol a Quill infused with my initials.
There are no mistakes in art. Even if your sharpie bleeds onto the cover of the book, this is totally intentional, but the book certainly does mined.
Jean Michelle Basquiat believed that there are 30 words that remain present in our everyday lives. These are the 30 words that surround me in my life. From my favorite words to my favorite profanity, all of them I've spoken on a daily basis. Some of these words depict actions I incorporate into my life. Other words depict some of my mindsets and overall mantras I try to live by.
The Thinker "Basquit-ized." "Basquit-ized" defined as the art of re-creating famous icons (e.g The Thinker) in the Jean Michelle Basquit, neo-expressionist, style . Basquit-ized ©, Kellogg Dictionary.
"Burnt out but Still Burning...that's Life." This quote I wrote, is something I feel a lot. There are days I feel I have given everything I got, but I still have to give more. And that's the monotony of life. Constantly pushing myself.
This is my brief description of Jean-Michelle Basquiat's style. The quote below touches on how we as humans dedicate so much of our existence to understanding our nature. And sometimes I feel like we impact on the world.
“SK” is a word I have devised to illustrate feeling stressed out, but also being okay with it. With all the trials and tribulations that life throws at us, it is always important to remember, it could always be worse. This word is more of a personal mantra to me, as often times, I over stress when life gets complicated. I just need to remember that, I'm never forsaken, I am never without loved ones, I am just “SK.” SK©, Kellogg Dictionary.
To my, 2021, college graduate self
I know that you remember all the anguish of college rejection and the anxiety of ending up at the "right place." At this point, you are still living through this. Enjoying Stephanie and Jeremy's classes to take the edge off. About to start the tennis season, and to go on your own college road trip. I hope that I have a great season, and I hope I will be satisfied with the college I spend my freshman year at. Who knows, maybe my whole college experience. The only one that will knows that information, is me, my future self, not my present self, not the one writing this. But one thing this current self does know, undeniably, that you will be a success in college. And it will be worth all the stress getting into college brings me now. The poem that I wrote up above is a shorter summation of this fact, as you know. I can't wait to be you, and I know that I will be you. I know one day I'll turn the corner and I won't be ready for it. The fact that I not only survived college, but thrived. I know that my future is bright.
Sincerely yours,

Surrealist Book
A brief definition of surrealism.
My Dada Art Piece and favorite surrealist quote. To create Dada Art all you need is randomness and The ability to say "Dadadadadadadadadada.......".
The Echo Poem assignment required us to take our favorite surrealist poem and reshape it by moving around sentences and mimicking on the poem's structure. I echoed Robert Desnos' Sleep Spaces. Using some of his various verbiage and some of my favorite imagery within the poem, I created my version of his poem.
